Baluns and structured cabling, such as Cat 5, are frequently used in security and monitoring applications |
|
Example System |
|
Example System 1: The composite
video from two security cameras is transmitted via two
V1 baluns and
Cat 5 cabling to a remote video switcher. The V1 baluns are
connected directly to the send and receive device's BNC connectors.
|
|
Example System |
Example System 2:
The video from three remote security cameras is routed to a digital
video recorder (DVR) via five
V1-ST baluns and one
V1-AR balun; the V1-AR is used for an extended Cat 5 run of 5000
feet. The V1-ST baluns are compact enough to be connected directly
to the BNC connectors on the cameras and DVR. Because the V1-STs and
V1-AR feature screw terminals and not RJ45 connectors, the Cat 5
cable shield must be stripped back so that the four individual cable
pairs are accessible.

Example System 3:
Two
V1-PTZ baluns connect a security camera to a security
controller. An operator at the controller views the video from the
camera, as well as controls the camera's pan, tilt, and zoom
settings.
